Rwanda Hosts High-Level Dialogue on Gender-Responsive Financing for Climate-Resilient Agrifood Systems
On 24 June 2026, the Joint Programme on Rural Women’s Economic Empowerment (JP RWEE) in Rwanda convened a high-level policy dialogue under the theme “Catalysing Inclusive and Climate-Resilient Agrifood Systems through Gender-Responsive Financing.” The event brought together senior policymakers, development partners, financial institutions, civil society organizations, private sector representatives and women entrepreneurs to explore how financing mechanisms can better support rural women and strengthen climate resilience.
The dialogue focused on innovative approaches to financing, including blended finance, digital credit solutions and gender-responsive climate insurance. Discussions highlighted the importance of expanding access to financial services for women-led agri-businesses, reducing investment risks and strengthening the resilience of rural communities in the face of climate and economic shocks.
By fostering collaboration among key stakeholders, the event sought to build political commitment and accelerate systemic changes in financing frameworks that can support more inclusive and sustainable agrifood systems. The dialogue also reinforced the critical role of rural women as drivers of agricultural transformation, food security and climate resilience.
The event forms part of JP RWEE’s broader efforts to advance rural women’s economic empowerment by promoting policies, partnerships and investments that enable women to thrive as entrepreneurs, producers and leaders within agrifood systems.
