CFS53: From policy to action: investing in women for a just agrifood systems transformation
Targeted investments and strategic partnerships in agrifood systems are essential to advance gender equality and enable women to strengthen their livelihoods, claim their rights, and build resilience. Supporting women in agrifood systems is not only a matter of equity – it is a smart investment in sustainable development and food security.
FAO and WFP on behalf of the Joint Programme on Rural Women’s Economic Empowerment (JP RWEE) are hosting a side event “From Policy to Action: Investing in Women for a Just Agrifood Systems Transformation” — happening on Tuesday, 21 October, from 08:30 to 09:45 CET in the Red Room, FAO Headquarters and online via Zoom, at margins of the Committee of World Food Security (CFS).
Co-hosted by Ireland, Norway, Sweden, Switzerland, IFAD and UN Women, this event will explore how strategic investments and partnerships in agrifood systems can advance gender equality, empower rural women and promote food security and nutrition.
It will also showcase how initiatives such as the JP RWEE enable such processes to take place, lifting the recommendations of the CFS Voluntary Guidelines on Gender Equality and Women’s and Girls’ Empowerment in the Context of Food Security and Nutrition (VG-GEWGE) from paper into action.
Join the side event bringing together governments, donors and civil society to
explore how to turn global commitments into real action that empowers women and strengthens food security and nutrition.
